• Establishing the Self is an in-person psychotherapy group for adults of all genders. Members are encouraged to slow down, notice their internal experience in real time, and explore new relational patterns within the group process. This experiential psychotherapy group integrates AEDP, attachment theory, and the work of Pia Mellody.

Group members will practice speaking from an “I” position, identifying emotions and bodily sensations, expressing needs and boundaries, and listening without fixing or rescuing. Sessions may include experiential exercises, role playing, psychoeducation, and therapist modeling.

    Topics may include:

    • attachment patterns

    • shame and self-concept

    • boundaries and emotional honesty

    • caretaking and over functioning

    • emotional regulation

    • needs, vulnerability, and dependency

    • grief, anger, and self-abandonment

  • This group may be a good fit for adults who:

    • struggle with people pleasing, over functioning, or difficulty setting boundaries

    • feel disconnected from their emotions, needs, or sense of self

    • experience anxiety, shame, or fear of conflict in relationships

    • notice recurring patterns of codependency or emotional enmeshment

    • are interested in experiential and attachment focused therapy

    Participants are required to either:

    • be actively engaged in individual therapy during the course of the group, or

    • complete a brief video consultation prior to beginning group if not currently working with an individual therapist.

Due to the experiential and emotionally focused nature of the group, consultation with an individual therapist may be recommended when clinically appropriate and with participant consent.
